following preamble and resolution were unanimously adopted.
Whereas W. J. Foust being desirous to unite with the
Church at this place. And whereas there are several members of

"The
following Preamble and Resolutions were read which was on motion
unanimously adopted by a rising vote (Elder Z. Childers at his
own request being excused from voting). Whereas W. J. Foust once
an ordained minister in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and
a member of this the Hopewell
Presbytery but for unchristian conduct was some eight
years ago deposed from all the functions of a gospel minister
and was for the same offense excommunicated from all the privileges
of the Church and Whereas he W. J. Foust did submit without a
mummer to the penalty inflicted confessing that he deserved nothing
better But Whereas he by a life of reform has brought forth first
mite for repentance to the satisfaction of our brethren in the
community where he lives and the church there having restored
him to the communion and fellowship of the church and whereas
he gives evidence of future usefulness as a minister and Whereas
he still feels that God is calling him to preach the Gospel and
Whereas Bro. W. J. Foust prays your reverend body that he be restored
to the functions of a gospel minister and Whereas it is the sense
of this Presbytery that it is human to err but divine to forgive
Therefore Resolved that Bro. W. J. Foust be and is hereby restored
to all the functions of a gospel minister and to membership in
this Presbytery. Presbytery then engaged in devout prayer to Almighty
God. On Motion Clerk of Sessions were ordered to notify their
congregations of the above resolution and that the same be sent
by the Stated Clerk to the Cumberland Presbyterian for publication
and a copy to Bro. W. J. Foust."
