Obituary from Lamar, Arkansas newspaper:

William J. Faust was born in middle Tennessee, on August 25, 1841, and died at Lamar, Ark. on October 2, 1917 aged 76 years, 1 month and 7 days.

In early boyhood, the deceased moved with his parents and other members of the family to west Tennessee where he lived quietly at home until the beginning of the Civil War. He enlisted in the 31st Tennessee as Chaplain. At the battle of Perryville, Ky., on October 8, 1862 as the captain of the regiment was shot from his horse he commanded the deceased to take his place. He took command immediately and won the day, losing his horse, and receiving nine bullets through his coat, and finally one through his knee. That ended his service in the war. He was brought home and remained a cripple for life.

On March 5, 1863, the deceased was married to Mary E. Swaim. To them were born 7 children, 4 boys and 3 girls, all of whom are living. The wife and mother died in Tennessee, on July 10, 1884.

Moving to Lamar Ark., the deceased was married to Willie T. Hampton in August 1886. To them were born eleven children, four of whom died in infancy. Four boys and three girls are living.

The deceased was a minister for more than fifty years. He taught, also for more than half a century, and was a leader in whatever association he found himself.

He was called a "ready man." He had but few equals and no superiors. He was the author of "Analytical Articles on Baptism", a book of 248 pages, written in 1893. Some years before he had written a small pamphlet "The Church of God Through All the Ages."

The crowning work of his life from a literary point of view, is yet unpublished. For nearly 40 years he had been writing and revising a "History of the Church." It was completed only a short while before his death.

The deceased was a member of the Masonic fraternity and was buried by that order.

-- I. B. Faust

obituary of second wife from Lamar, Arkansas newspaper:

Willie T. Faust was born on Oct. 30, 1862. She died on November 1, 1926, aged 64 years and 2 days. At the age of 24, or in 1886, she was married to Rev. W. J. Faust of Lamar, Arkansas. To them were born eleven children, four of whom died in infancy. Four boys and three girls are living.

The deceased was light-hearted and gay for some years, or until troubles came, both physical and mental. She was a good mother, loving her children more dearly than her own life. When sickness came to any member of the family she was constantly at the bedside, the very embodiment of devotion.

Willie, as I always called her, was a hard worker when younger. She was a splendid seamstress and loved to work for those in need. She was perfection itself in the culinary art. Her cooking was fit for a king.

She was an invalid for nearly ten years, suffering most intensely a great part of the time. Thinking the California climate might be beneficial, she left her old home and went to Redondo Beach to live her last years near Lillian, her oldest daughter.

To the boys and girls who survive her, I would say "weep not". Willie suffered enough; she has now gone HOME.

[obituary from The Cumberland Presbyterian August 7, 1884, page 2]

FOUST.-- At her home near Gleason, Tenn., Mrs. Eliza Foust, wife of the Rev. W. J. Foust. She was born Feb. 5, 1847; professed religion in 1859, and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church; was married in 1863, and died July 10, 1884. This, in brief, is the record of a life that came, and as a light shone for thirty-seven years, and then went out-- but not forever. It does not shine here, except in her works, which do follow her; but doubtless it glows more brilliantly in a land brighter and fairer than this. Sister Foust always tried to do right; was consistent, energetic, open hearted. Perhaps no woman was ever a more devoted, faithful wife and mother. Her husband and children appreciate her worth now that she is gone as they never did before. May God bless and care for them in their bereavement! B. G. MITCHELL.
