Report of Committee on Examination. Your committee met in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Dyersburg on Monday, March 23, 1910, at 7:30 p.m. Candidates ... J. J. Cobb ... appeared before us at our first session and were examined upon reading. At our second session we conducted a somewhat thorough examination of both classes of the probationers upon the branches of an English education and upon the Confession of Faith and Constitution. We recommend that J. J. Cobb be continued on the roll as candidate for another period of six months.

Prayer by licentiate J. J. Cobb. One half hour was spent in devotional exercises conducted by J. J. Cobb.
Committee on Literature and Theology. We have also had Licentiate J. J. Cobb whom we examined and find that he has met the requirements for ordination and recommend that he be set apart to the full work of the Gospel Ministry tonight after the preaching by Rev. C. H. Walton. Rev. T. H. Padgett will preside and deliver the charge and Rev. C. A. Davis lead the prayer.
Report of Literature and Theology. The Committee on Literature and Theology having recommended that licentiate J. J. Cobb after a sermon by Rev. C. H. Walton from John 6-4-7 be set apart to the whole work of the Gospel Ministry Rev. T. H. Padgett presiding and giving the charge Bro Jefferson J. Cobb having answered all the questions in the affirmative that were necessary to be propounded to him he was then very solimmy ordained to the whole work of the ministry by the laying on of hands of the Presbytery and prayer and his name enrolled as a minister of this presbytery.

Rev. J. J. Cobb was elected teacher in the Theological Department to begin with the school year 1926-1927. No salary was fixed for the second year, same being leftr open for future agreement. Rev. J. J. Cobb later tendered his resignation, which was filed.

Rev. John J. Cobb: On June 10, 1923, Herbert Hall, Q. A. Cooke, Ben Ladd, and J. H. Kirby, "the committee on pastorate supply," reported that they had called Rev. John Cobb who had accepted the call the would take charge July 1. The pastor was a man of ability who brought new ideas to the church, such as initiating the plan of tithing. He had the distinction of being the first pastor in the denomination to employ a director of Christian education. Even so in April of 1928, the session heard rumors of things which they did not approve and asked Rev. Cobb to meet with them. Instead of attending the meeting, he sent his resignation and left Knoxville.
