MATLOCK.--Rev. C. N. Matlock, of the Madison Presbytery, was born April 4, 1861, and departed this life on the morning of the fourteenth day of June, 1913. On November 27, 1879, he was united in marriage with Miss Lydia C. Buck. To this happy union were born ten children, seven boys and three girls, all of whom survive him except two. Early in life he professed faith in Christ and joined the Maple Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was soon deeply felt and appreciated in both his church and community as a public exhorter. He was elected and ordained in said congregation to the office of ruling elder, and served for a number of years. At about twenty-six years of age he felt a call to the gospel ministry, joined the Madison Presbytery, and faithfully served his church during his entire ministerial life. The last few years of his life were devoted exclusively to ministerial work, assisted by his son Charles, and he became well known to multitudes all over West Tennessee, as a spiritual revivalist. Brother Matlock leaves behind a loving companion, eight children, a number of relatives and a host of friends to mourn his departure. And while many bleeding hearts move in sympathy towards the bereaved ones, we all realize deeply our loss, and also in it heaven's gain. The funeral service was conducted at the church by the writer, in the presence of a large congregation. After which the remains were tenderly laid away in the Maple Springs Cemetery to await the call on the resurrection morn. And now when we think of our dear Brother Matlock, we can point upward and say:
"My loved ones are gathering yonder
My friends are fast passing away.
And when my frail tent here is folded
Mine eyes shall their glory behold;
No sin is allowed in that city
There's nothing to hurt or destroy,
No pain and no sickness can enter
No crepe on the door-knob is seen."
