At the request of Rev.
Mrs. Chloe Kratli, the Presbytery went into an interlocutory session.
The nature of and purpose of Sister Kratli of her own free will
making this request was to make statements herself and introduce
witness to show the cause of her being divorced from her husband
and then ask Presbytery to exonerate or condemn her as its findings
might be in her case. The evidence as shown by Rev. J. R. Craig
a personal witness, and her testimony, was as follows: That her
husband had demanded of her (his wife) to renounce her religion
to go before the church and publicly state that there was nothing
in religion, that it was a fake intimidating her until she was
afraid of her life, and afraid for him to find her in secret prayer.
That he was very abusive, cursing her and threatening her life.
Rev. Craig said he had often tried to reason with him, but that
he would not reason and could not be reasoned with, and would
become angry until her quit trying to do anything with him.
The Presbytery after hearing this evidence and more
of the same nature which the clerk has not recorded, On motion,
by a unanimous vote exonerated her, and further said, that she
had pursued the only course that a Christian lady could have done.
