HAYNES.--At Denton, Texas, on May 1, 1895, Rev. John Haynes departed this life and entered into the rest that remains for the people of God. He was born in North Carolina January 28, 1798. When quite young he was brought by his parents to the vicinity of Cornersville, Tenn., where he received an education. He professed religion at the age of 20 years, and entered the ministry at 30, and September 22, 1821, was married to Catharine Bell, daughter of Rev. Robert Bell, the first missionary in Mississippi to the Chickasaw and Choctaw Indians.

Brother Haynes has been a resident of Denton for many years, and all the time a member of Guthrie Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. His last affliction was borne with patience, and he stated near the hour of death that the Great Physician was with him. He was 97 years of age--seventy-seven years a Christian and sixty-seven a minister of the gospel. The writer being sick at the time, the funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. F. Cunningham, of Pilot Point, Texas, whose grandfather's funeral Brother Haynes preached nearly fifty years ago. May the God of providence and grace reunite all these loved ones in the sweet by and bye.
