REV. L. D. EWING.

I do not feel that I would be doing right not to add a word in memory of my friend and room mate in college, Rev. L. D. Ewing, the account of whose death I have just read in The Interior of April 22. Truly a good man has fallen. L. D. Ewing, as student, had the respect of all his fellow students. He was an optimist. Many times at Lebanon while pursuing his theological studies, he would find himself without a dollar. But instead of becoming discouraged he would put on his white necktie and his best clothes and say "the Lord will not let me suffer." And he never did. He would get down on his knees and ask God to help and in a few days some good friend back in his native state would send him check for fifty or a hundred dollars. He was so appreciative of these blessings that he would go round to the rooms of the boys and tell them of his good fortune. Mr. Ewing's pet names for the young preachers in school were "Rooster" and "Poor-Folks." And all the "Roosters" and all the "Poor-Folks" loved L. D. Ewing. He was full of fun. No student in the university loved fun more than did he. Many are the pranks that he played on the boys and the boys were always on the lookout to play pranks on him. It was all in good humor and would end up with a hearty laugh by all parties concerned. He was frank to express himself on questions that confronted him. He was true to his ideals of the Christian life. There is no wonder, therefore, that when he went out of the university to take up the active duties of the Christian ministry, that he became an earnest pastor. His work speaks for itself. He died in the harness. Peace to his ashes and may his influence never die.     J. P. HICKS.
