JOHN GILBERT MARSHALL.

Ruling Elder John Gilbert Marshall was born August 7, 1851, and died May 24, 1919. Age, 67 years, 9 months. The funeral was preached by the pastor in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Lewisburg, Tenn., Sunday May 25, to a large audience of relatives and friends, who keenly felt the loss of such a good man. The remains were laid to rest under a profusion of beautiful flowers at Lone Oak cemetery.

Brother Marshall professed faith in Christ early in life and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and for a number of years was a ruling elder. He was a quiet, consecrated man of remarkably smooth temperament, manly and courteous in all the relations of life, a true Christian, a splendid citizen, a devoted husband and father, an efficient, consecrated officer in the church. He enjoyed the confidence and esteem of everyone. He died in the full triumph of a living faith, and went to join the angelic chorus at the right hand of God.

He leaves a widow, a son, and other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his death. His last words were of heaven, of Christ, and loved ones who had preceded him to the better land. The congregation and the town fell a deep sense of loss in his death. The sincere sympathy of the entire community is with the family. Those who listened to Brother Marshall's last talks could never doubt either the realities of religion and heaven nor the genuiness of his faith.--Rev. C. M. Zwingle, Pastor.
