Martin.--Died, April 16, 1887, near Mt. Hope Lawrence county, Ala., the Rev. S. P. Martin. Brother Martin was a devoted Christian. He loved his Church, and his delight was to serve his Church, prayer-meeting, and Sabbath-school. He joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church while young. Later in life he began the work of the ministry, to which he devoted his latter days about eight years under the care of McGready Presbytery. Although his life was not devoted entirely to the work of the ministry, yet he persisted in the work of the Sabbath-school and prayer-meeting. The Church sustained a great loss by his death. While we sustain a great loss in his death, he has gone to join the Church triumphant in heaven. Brother Martin was a devoted husband and a kind father. He leaves many friends to weep, though they weep not as those who have no hope. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.," ROME PICKENS
