TOUCH THE FUTURE: WHAT IS DISCERNMENT? |
What are the Presbyteries doing? What are Churches doing? How can I get started in my Presbytery? How can I get started in my Church? How do Goals of Presbytery, a Church & GA Relate?
When we speak of discernment we mean seeking the will of God in our own lives and in the lives of our congregations and presbyteries, and then setting goals for fulfilling that call to ministry. Discernment is a process that takes planning on the part of some so that the larger group is free to experience the leading of the Holy Spirit. The Discernment Diamond gives a visual illustration of the discernment process and a brief explanation of each of its stages. The discernment process outlined in the Discernment Handbook which can be ordered from the TOUCH THE FUTURE office by clicking here, has been developed by TOUCH THE FUTURE: A NEW FRONTIER IN PARTNERSHIP. TOUCH THE FUTURE'S primary goal is to strengthen congregations. This strength will come through seeking the will of God and assisting and enabling congregations, presbyteries, and the General Assembly agencies to work in partnership toward the three priority goals adopted by the General Assembly in 1997 and other goals discovered in this ten year process. Vision Enablers from each presbytery will act as human resources enabling congregations and presbyteries to effectively work through this discernment process. They will help the Task Force of a presbytery or congregation decide on one of the three approaches to discernment or help them modify one of the three to best suit their needs.
