MINISTRY COUNCIL SUMMARY OF ACTIONS

1.    The Ministry Council met February 29-March 1, 2008, at Germantown Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Germantown, Tennessee.

2.    Opened with a season of prayer and request the Church to continue to pray with the Ministry Council for the person who may be sensing a call from God to serve as our Director of Ministries and for openness to the leadership of the Holy Spirit in encouraging potential applicants.

3.    Elected a new President and 1st Vice President.  Members of the Ministry Council Executive Committee are:  Gwen Roddye—President; Jill Carr—1st Vice President; Iwao Satoh—2nd Vice President; Elizabeth Horsley--Secretary.

4.    Named Sam Romines as the Ministry Council Representative to General Assembly and elected Iwao Satoh as the Alternate.

5.    Elected Wayne Woods to the Search Committee as the Council member at-large.  Members of the Search Committee are:  Gwen Roddye, Jill Carr, Iwao Satoh, Elizabeth Horsley, Wayne Wood, and Margie Shannon.

6.    Elected a standing Finance sub-committee:  Jill Carr, Hillman Moore, and Leo Whinery

7.    Announced that the Ministry Council Corporate Charter has been filed and sent to the State of Tennessee.

8.    Adopted Plan of Merger of the related incorporated boards; and approved recommendations to General Assembly that each one be adopted.

9.    Assumed the duties of the General Assembly Council effective February 1, 2008, and began working with Davis Gray as part-time consultant and Mary McCaskey as part-time administrative assistant.

10.    Approved an updated diagram and a new detailed description of the diagram explaining the Ministry Council work to be added to our report to General Assembly and to be distributed to the Church.

11.    Approved the Bylaws of the Ministry Council to be recommended to General Assembly for adoption.

12.    Heard a report from Iwao Satoh and Frank Ward on the Global Ministries Retreat held in February. 

13.    Approved the translation of this Summary of Actions in Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.  The January Summary is already available in Spanish at www.cumberland.org/ministrycouncil.

14.    Heard an updated report on the new Center purchase and plans to finish the buildings.

15.    Approved recommendations to General Assembly to make changes in terminology in the General Regulations related to the Ministry Council (formerly General Assembly Council), World Wide Missions (formerly Global Missions), Ministry Teams (formerly Advisory Committees), and Ministry Team Names—Communications Ministry Team, Discipleship Ministry Team, Missions Ministry Team, Pastoral Development Ministry Team.

16.    Approved a recommendation to the General Assembly to add General Regulation B.5.d. to read as follows: “The Committee on Nominations shall be intentional in nominating persons who represent the Global nature of the church.”

17.    Approved our report to the 178th General Assembly.

18.    Approved that all future meetings of the Ministry Council will be held in Memphis, Tennessee, with the next meeting on May 8-10, 2008.
