Was born June 21, 1851, at Dandridge, Tenn., being 88 years of age at death. He died October 13, 1939, at his home in Chattanooga, Tenn. His funeral was conducted at Decherd, Tenn., at the Presbyterian Church, October 14, 1939, by J. W. Simmons of Winchester, Rev. Mr. Nash, pastor of the local church, and the writer.
For forty years he was a faithful member and minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He lived a very active life, holding a great many revivals, seeing many precious souls born into the kingdom of God. It was through his ministry, while he was holding a revival for me, in West Nashville church, that forty were added to the church at one time; among that group was the Rev. Milton E. Wright, who is now pastor of the Second Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Memphis, Tenn. Until three weeks of his death, he was pastor of Tullahoma and Monteagle churches. He was also a lifelong member of the Masonic order; a graduate of a dental college. He worked and preached his long life through. He was a very lovable character. He loved God, his church, and family.
Besides his wife, sister, son, daughter, and three grandchildren,
are the members of the Elk
Presbytery and many friends and preachers of other presbyteries,
who mourn his going.--W. D. Marshall.
