REV. ELI N. RAINEY.

W. P. ANDERSON.

REV. ELI N. RAINEY died at his residence in Washington county, Miss., on Jan. 11, 1878; aged forty-seven years. Bro. Rainey was born in Greene county, Ala.; was raised in Attala county, Miss., where he was licensed to preach, above twenty years ago, in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. It was during the war, I think, that he removed with his family to Winston county, where in 1866 he dissolved his connection with the Methodist Church and connected himself with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, in which he lived, actively engaged in the Master's work, until called to his reward. No man was held in greater esteem in his community than Bro. Rainey. He had the entire confidence of both saint and sinner. Though his health had not been good for some time, he was stricken down with pneumonia only a few days before his decease, having preached on Sabbath before his death on Thursday. He left no last words, nor were any needed. He improved the talent the Lord gave him, and hath doubtless heard the plaudit, "Well done, good and faithful servant." He leaves a wife and six children. May teh Lord be unto them husband and father.
