Rev. J. J. Patton

1818 - 1892

Cumberland Presbyterian Minister

PATTON.--Resolutions adopted by the F. and A.M. in memory of Rev. J. J. Patton.

The undersigned committee, appointed by Hermon Lodge, No. 239, F. and A.M. , to draft resolutions in memory of our departed brother, J. J. Patton, would respectfully report the following:

Whereas it pleased the Supreme Architect of the universe, the Grand Master of the Supreme Lodge in the life beyond, on the 25th day of October, 1892, to call from his home on earth, to summon from a subordinate lodge of which he was the first Worshipful Master, Brother J. J. Patton; and, whereas we deeply deplore and keenly feel the loss to our order, to his family and to his moral Christian influence; therefore, be it

Resolved, 1. That in the death of Brother J. J. Patton, stricken down in the seventy-fifth year of his age (though old his mind was bright, serene and clear), our fraternity has lost a just man and one of her brightest members, who was ever ready and willing to administer to the needs and wants of a worthy brother; his family an indulgent, kind and generous husband and father; the Cumberland Presbyterian church a worthy member and an able minister of the gospel; the neighborhood a distinguished citizen.

2. That while our heads are bowed in grief and our hearts are filled with sorrow, we feel and know that God in his infinite wisdom can do no wrong; that we tender the family of our deceased brother our heartfelt sympathy, and at the same time our consolation, assuring them that the loved ones of our departed Brother shall ever be near and dear to the brotherhood.

3. That the secretary of this lodge furnish a copy of these resolutions to the family and a copy to the CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN for publication.
