
The Rev. Ray Morris, 76, Louisville, Ky, died Sunday, June 25 from complications following surgery at Humana Hospital Suburban. He had been in declining health for several years.
During his lengthy ministry Mr. Morris served a number a churches in KY. He was the organizing pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Louisville and pastored both the Louisville First and Hillview congregations. He was widely known and respected as an evangelist. Mr. Morris was a member of the former Leitchfield Presbytery for over 50 years.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 29 in Louisville. Long time friend, the Rev. O. T. Powell, delivered the message with the Rev. Kevin Wood, Hillview Church and Licentiate Jim Diamond, Louisville First Church, assisting.
A graveside service was conducted at Mr. Morris' home church, Freedom Church, Harned, KY. A gavel he used as moderator of the 1949 meeting of the former Kentucky Synod was presented to the Rev. Ellis Nugent, pastor of Freedom Church. The gavel will be on permanent display in the sanctuary.
Mr. Morris is survived by a son, David, of Milan, TN, a daughter, Frances Bond, of Burke, VA, and five grandchildren.

Rev. Ray A. Morris was born April 9, 1913 to James H. Morris and Oma Kennedy Morris. He married Lucille Rogers Spurrier on November 26, 1936. They had two children, Frances Ray and David Wayne. Rev. Morris was ordained on August 1936. His pastorates include Louisville First Cumberland Presbyterian Church--Louisville, Kentucky; Madisonville Cumberland Presbyterian Church--Madisonville, Kentucky; Latta Cumberland Presbyterian Church--Latta, Oklahoma; Campbellsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church--Campbellsville, Kentucky; Hillview Cumberland Presbyterian Church--Louisville, Kentucky and Bethany Cumberland Presbyterian Church--Louisville, Kentucky.
