"On
motion an opportunity was extended to any persons desiring to
converse with the Presbytery on the subject of a call to the Gospel
Ministry. Brothers W.A. Mathews and G.B. Britton
came forward, and by consent of the house, Rev. J.B. Dobson conducted
the conversation. After an interview with the above named Brethren,
on motion, the Presbytery entered into interlocutory. After a
time thus spent, the interlocutory closed." ... On motion
the Presbytery resumed its interlocutory and the unfinished business
of the previous evening. On motion the interlocutory was closed;
and Bro. W.A. Mathews (who was of the Presbyterian
Church) was advised to unite with a congregation of the Cumberland
Presbyterian Church, and appear at the next meeting of Presbytery

of his being in the communion of the church, proceeded to take
the usual parts of trial for his licensure, and he having given
satisfactory; as to his aptness to teach; as to his experimental
acquaintance with religion; as to his internal call to the work
of the ministry; and as to his proficiency in divinity; The Presbytery
did and do hereby express their approval of all these parts of
trial, and he having adopted the confession of faith of this church
and satisfactorily answered the questions appointed to be put
to candidates for licensure; The Presbytery did and do hereby
license him the said W.A. Mathis is preach the
Gospel of Christ as a probationer for the holy ministry in the
bounds of this Presbytery or wherever God in his providence may

of our aged and beloved brethren have passed away viz. Rev. Thomas
R. Bradshaw died at Mt. Horeb July 4, 1899. Rev. W.A.
Mathes of near Mt. Horeb died Sept. 25, 1899. And Rev.
A.A. Starnes died March 24, 1900 and we recommend that a memorial
service be held in their memory on tomorrow at 11 o'clock A.M.
and that the moderator appoint some minister to conduct the service.
