Rev. J. Q. Lathem, a retired Cumberland Presbyterian minister of Grace Presbytery, died on March 20, 2000, following a brief illness. He was 92 years old. Funeral services were held on March 25, 2000, at Carthage, Mississippi.
Rev. Lathem was ordained September 20, 1951 by the old Mississippi Presbytery. He served for many years as stated clerk of the presbytery. He served the following churches; Groverton, Line Prairie and Reformation. Rev. J. Q. Lathem was the father of Rev. Ray Lathem. He is also survived by two other sons, three daughters, and sixteen grandchildren, two of whom are ministers.
Rev. Lathem is remembered this Memorial Day along with the other Cumberland Presbyterian Ministers who completed their ministry on earth this past year. He is remembered for his ministry as a tentmaker and his love of gardening and fishing.
