Obituary of Angelina Kennedy Johnston
Brother Cossitt--You published, the 24th of January, that death had taken from earth and the church-militant, Brother Thomas Bryan and his daughter Lavinia Kennedy; it it now my painful duty to communicate to you that ANGELINA JOHNSTON, the daughter and grand-daughter has followed them.

ANGELINA JOHNSTON, consort of the Rev. James F. Johnson [sic], departed this life, on the 12th of Feb'y. last, in the 22nd year of her age.

Having been serious and thoughtful from childhood, and having been early taught the way to God by her beloved parents, she sought and obtained the pearl of great price, in early life. In the fall of 1840 she professed religion and then attached herself to the C.P. Church, in which she lived, a worthy, consistent, and exemplary member, until the day of her death which was most happy, thus adding another shining evidence of the triumphs of the gospel of the grace of God.

The 6th of October, 1842, she became the wife of the Rev. James F. Johnston. To him she was a help-meet indeed--a help-meet in every respect, but especially in his ministerial vocation and the duties flowing therefrom. Instead of throwing difficulties in his way, as is sometimes the case, she studied to do all she could to remove them. On her death-bed, while in conversation with her afflicted husband, about her approaching end, she said she had but one care and that was her little Babe, which she told him to give to his mother. [Subsequently, she said to her father-in-law, the Rev. F. Johnston, while in conversation with him about death, that she wished him to take her babe and take care of it.] She then said to her husband--"Foster, I have but one thing to say to you, and that is go and warn sinners as long as you live."

She spent much of her time in silent meditation. When her unconverted friends came to see her, she warned them faithfully. The day before her exit, she became very happy, while in conversation with ehr beloved father, about her departure, and shouted the high praises of God. Every cloud had disappeared; and heaven seemed to dawn upon her enraptured vision. The morning of the day that her redeemed spirit winged its way tothe Paradise of God, she sang the whole song. "Come let us anew our journey pursue."

When the fatal moment arrived, her tranquil spirit was borne aloft, leaving the tenement of clay without a struggle or a groan, and entered those peaceful regions where the light of glory beams and all the air is love to enjoy the society of her mother, brother, and grand parents, with all the blood-besprinkled "multitude who stnad befor ethe Throne," arrayed in white robes dazzling in the light of heaven; palms of victory in their hands procured by the great atoning Sacrifice; & crowns, gemm'd with the stars of heaven, placed upon their heads by him "who weareth many crown," but especially the smiles of her blessed Redeemer--her Father in Christ and the Illuminator of the world, the Three that bear record in Heaven--whom she loved so dearly, honored by her life, and praised so often while on earth in the church-militant. "Let me die the death of the righteous and let my last end by like his." Sinner, behold the power of reigning grace. Christian, take courage in the heav'nly race! See, how a christian dies with Heav'n in view! While Christ conducts the saint in triumph through The valley dark, up to the Throne of God, To meet her friends redeemed with priceless blood, Applied thro' faith, the instrument elect, By God the spirit's agency direct; And prov'd in time the life of God within, By love to God and man, and hating sin. Her friends she warn'd, and pointed them above, Where reign immortal life, delight and love; Then to her husband she benignly said,
