"The
next minister listed in the notes of Ewing Presbytery is Lewis
Johnson. These notes refer to him as 'Bishop from Big Piney.'
Unfortunately, the early minutes for this church do not exist,
making it impossible to follow his activities there. Also, the
minutes for Arkansas Presbytery for the period 1847 to 1865 are
lost, and these years should include his ordination. [Thomas]
Hickman states that Johnson was received by presbytery as a candidate
October 10, 1840, licensed April 3, 1841, and ordained about 1848.
He states further that Johnson worked in Ewing Presbytery and
was on its roll, and that he died in 1866."
