Rev. John Carl Irby, 83, a member of East Texas Presbytery, died December 3. He had been a minister in the presbytery for 62 years and had served most of the rural churches of the presbytery.

The funeral was held at Pine Hill church near Winnsboro with Dr. L. L. Thomas of Elmira Chapel church officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bessie Irby, one daughter, six sons, 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was an uncle of Rev. Joe Ben Irby, professor in Memphis Theological Seminary.
