"Grandma" Hughs Publishes First Full Length Book
What do you do when you turn 90?
Provided you're still around and kicking, you might prefer to twiddle our thumbs, whittle, or gossip aimlessly. Or you might spend your time more profitably by doing needlework or dealing in antiques.
If you're exceptional, you do what Grandma Moses did. Get out your paint brushes and turn out some art masterpieces.
In the Grandma Moses tradition, Rev. Mrs. Eva Wollard Hughs of Bolivar, Mo. has turned to publishing as she turns into her 91st year. She likes to scribble, type manuscripts, and promote publications. She is a member of Springfield Presbytery.
Her latest work, just off the presses this month, recounts incidents in her life as an Ozark minister. She reminisces about her early life and the years trekking from country church to country church through out the Ozarks and into the South. the book, 167 pages in paperback, is entitled Parson Polly's Treasured Volume.
Mrs. Hughs has been compiling the book for about thirty years now. She is the mother of the late Wollard Hughs, to whom she dedicates the book. She has give grandsons: Willis and Rodie of Bolivar, Russ and Jack of Kansas City, and Douglas of the United States Marine Corps.
Previously she published a little booklet called Camp Cumberland Yesteryears, a story of the old time camp meetings. It was published last year. Now Parson Polly is her first full length work.
And she doesn't intend to let a good thing end.
She's already titled her next work, Ozark Yesteryears,
and she's going to start on it as soon as she gets time.

Obituary of Rev. Hughs' parents.
Passed away within a few hours of each other, January 30 and 31, at their farm home near Bolivar, Missouri, near Barren Creek Church where they were converted and joined the church when young. They were actively interested in the church throughout all these years. Mr. Wollard was made an elder in the church in 1885, and ever considered the office seriously. He often represented his church in our official courts, where he was always a trusted counselor and presbyter.
They were married on October 7, 1877. One son and one daughter were born to them. The son died at the age of two years. The daughter, Rev. Mrs. Eva Hughs, survives. She fitted into their lives through all these years and, with the help of her son, Wollard, and his wife, she cared for them during their declining years. Mr. and Mrs. Will Robertson and their two sons, Harry and Herschell, lived with them and were as close to them as relatives.
Among their most precious human ties were their three great-grandsons--Jack, Willis, and Douglas Hughs. Nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also gladdened their lives.
"Aunt Add," as she was affectionately known, was the daughter of Henry J. and Sarah J. Eaton. She was born near Fairplay, Missouri, August 17, 1858. She had four brothers and three sisters. Two brothers died in infancy; a sister and a brother died in their seventy-eighth year, and two sisters and a brother survive.
"Uncle Billy" as he was familiarly known, was born October 23, 1858, near Bolivar, Missouri. He was the son of W. D. and Cordelia Stockton Wollard. He had two brothers and three sisters, but only he and the brothers lived to reach their majority. Both his brothers passed away some years ago.
Truly a prince and a princess in Israel are fallen and many will miss them in the church and community and their places will not easily be filled.
The funeral was preached by a former pastor, Rev. L. B. McCaslin,
the present pastor, Rev. L. A. Bandy, assisting. Their bodies
were laid to rest in Barren Creek Cemetery, beside the little
white church where they so loved to worship through all these
years.
Rev.
L. B. McCaslin.
