Obituary of Margaret Louise Standifer Estes
Mrs. Margaret Louise Estes
Daughter of John H. and Martha Standifer, was born in Gadsden, Ala., January 19, 1858; departed this life December 22, 1939, at Cordell, Okla. She moved with her parents to Bosque County, Texas, about 1866. In 1875 she was married to I. M. Cunningham. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Olive Cunningham, of Cordell, Okla. In 1887 she was married to J. A. Estes. To this union three sons were born: Rev. S. R. Estes, Wichita Falls, Texas; J. H. Estes, Pioneer, Okla.; and Rev. H. N. Estes, Plainview, Texas. She also helped rear four step-children whom she loved as her own. One, T. D. Estes passed away some years ago; the others--Mrs. Eva Rice, Lubbock, Texas; Rev. C. W. Estes, Whitesboro, Texas; and A. H. Estes, Wichita Falls, Texas, survive. Besides her husband and the children, she leaves twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, twenty-three step-grandchildren, three brothers, one sister, and a host of friends who remember her for her gentle, Christian spirit.
She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church from her thirteenth year, her membership being at Wichita Falls, at the time of her death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Elmer Kelley assisted by Rev. C. A. Tucker, Presbyterian pastor at Cordell, after which her body was laid to rest in Lawnview Cemetery.--A granddaughter, Mrs. Thomas H. Campbell.
