REV. ALFRED I. [sic J] BONE was
born in the state of Kentucky, Feb. 27, 1821. Professed religion
and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church when young. Was
ordained ruling elder when he was twenty-one, and was for a number
of years an efficient ruling elder. He joined Ewing Presbytery
(Ark.) as a candidate for the ministry, Oct., 1867, and was licensed
to preach the gospel at the same meeting of the Presbytery. When
King Presbytery was organized he was within her bounds. On the
18th day of October, 1869, he was ordained by King Presbytery
to the whole work of the ministry. Brother Bone was not what the
world calls a great preacher, notwithstanding that he was a close
thinker and what the writer calls a good theologian. But brother
Bone is gone. He breathed his last Nov. 24, 1882. Truly a good
man has gone. "Write blessed are the dead which die in the
Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, they rest from their
labors, and their works do follow them."
