Rev. S. C. Ashmore, a retired minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, died at his home, Columbus, Miss., January 16th, 1914, and was a the time of his death seventy-eight years, two months and fourteen days old.

He was born in Illinois, November 2nd, 1837. He was married to Miss Kite also of Illinois, which union the Lord blessed with six children and two of these are living.

He was married again to Miss Byram of Mississippi, which union the Lord blessed with five boys--Paul, Silas, Samuel, Eli and Roy, who are with us today.

Brother Ashmore said he was called to the ministry when very young, but resisted the call till the Lord took his property, and finally his first wife, breaking up his home. He then yielded and was for thirty-two years a minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church never missing an appointment in his twenty-seven years of active service.

He was ordained two years after entering the ministry, and was at the time of his death, a member of Yazo [sic: Yazoo] Presbytery of the Synod of Mississippi.

His funeral was held at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Columbus, Miss., conducted by the pastor, T. C. Wilson.
