Sallie A. Alexander (Landrith)

1866 - 1959

Cumberland Presbyterian Missionary

3rd wife of Rev. Ira Landrith

This hour will long be remembered, because of the beautiful consecration services of Miss Sallie, daughter of Rev. J. L. Alexander of Nashville, Tenn., a lovely, intelligent woman.

The services led by Miss Frances Maghee opened with music, followed by prayer by the pastor, Rev. J. W. Caldwell, and "Praise God From Whom all Blessings Flow." Scripture reading, Acts xiii: 2, 3, II Timothy ii:1-13 and 24-26 read by Mrs. A. M. Castlen. A beautiful solo, "I Alone the Cross Must Bear" followed and Miss Alexander told in a simple, earnest manner the way she had been led and prepared from childhood for this step. "He Leadeth Me" made her words more impressive. Mrs. W. J. Darby, in her sweet, impressive way, gave the charge from the Woman's Board and Dr. C. H. Bell, of St. Louis, from the Assembly's Board. The members of the Board, Rev. Alexander, Mrs. Armstrong, the wife of the first missionary sent out by the Assembly's Board to Turkey, Mrs. A. M. Drennan, Miss Rena Rezner and Miss Alexander knelt around the altar while Rev. Ira Landrith offered the prayer of consecration. Will it ever be forgotten? "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" and the benediction by Dr. Bell, closed this memorable service. The influence of so perfect a sacrifice from father and daughter time and eternity alone can tell. One of the most impressive incidents was the thanks of the Japanese helpers to the dear father for the gift of this daughter to their people.
