Union Murvaul Church was organized about 1878. Harris Davis, a white man, gave two acres of land, one for a church and one for a school. The first trustees of the church were Andy Collins and a gentleman remembered as "Shep." A later trustee was Jake McDaniel. Years later, two and three-tenths acres were purchased from A. D. Brooks, making a total of four and three-tenths acres of land. Included in this tract is a cemetery. The first church was of logs with a dirt floor.
Union Murvaul was so-called because of being the only church in the community. All denominations attended. About one-half of the attendance was white. Later, other churches were created and some members went to other denominations.
