Reverend S. L. Hill, the son of the late Reverend F. Hill and Millie Hill was born in Panola County, February 17, 1898. On Thursday morning October 21, 1976 at 5:45 A.M., Reverend Hill passed away at Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He received his public school education in the East Waco Public schools. He later attended Bishop College, in Marshall, Texas. He pastored Liberian Cumberland Presbyterian Church Nacogdoches, Texas his first appointment. During his ministerial career he pastored the following churches; Mt. Zion, Jacksonville, Rock Hill, Jacksonville, Pine Grove, Henderson, Texas, St. Betties Chapel, Henderson, Texas, Union Murval Panola County and Memorial, Tyler, Texas. Entered the ministry at an early age and continued to preach and pastor until failing health forced his retirement. Reverend Hill served the church in various capacities, as moderator of the East Texas Presbytery and as clerk of the District Sunday School Convention and also a chartered member of the State J. E. Dixon Extension Board. He preached his last sermon in August of this year in the State Convention held in Dallas at the Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Reverend Hill was faithful until the end.

Reverend Hill united in holy matrimony with Mrs. Nevada Collins, December 25, 1925 with whom he lived until death.

His survivors include, a devoted wife, Mrs. Nevada Hill and a number of other friends and relatives.

Funeral services for the Rev. Sampson Hill, 74, of 1407 W. Grand Ave., will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Henderson with the Rev. D. S. Smith officiating. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Henderson under direction of Peoples Funeral Home.

Rev. Smith died Thursday at Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

A native of Panola County, he lived here for 43 years. He attended Waco public school[s] and Bishop College. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Felix Hill, he was a minister by occupation and a member of the Masonic Lodge and a charter member of J. E. Dixon extension board. He was also a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his widow, Nevada Hill; one foster son, Estell Hill and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
