The Beech Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America was organized in the early twentieth century around 1912. The exact date is unknown. The founder and organizer of the church was Rev. J. W. D. Mays an immigrant from Oxford, England.

The church received its name from a group of "Beech Trees" that were on the grounds where the church was erected. The first church was erected in an area known as Finley, Tennessee. Years later the church moved to another location in the northern section of the Middle City Community. This church burned around 1935.

The third and present-day church was rebuilt in 1942 in the south side of the Middle City Community. Elder John Jones and his son Luther Jones built this church in the evenings after a long day's work. Thanks to these dedicated soldiers; the congregation has the building it has today.

Former pastors of the church are: Rev. J. W. D. Mays, founding pastor, Rev. G. G. Grinter, Rev. A. N. McCutchen, Rev. D. D. Eagle, Rev. Ed Carter, Rev. John Woods, Rev. Kimble Henderson, Rev. Blackwell, Rev. J. H. Barbee, Rev. Marshal Jennings, Rev. Al Seward. The current pastor is Rev. Clarence Fowler.

The organizations of the church are Missionary Union, Choir Union, Usher Union. The clerk of the church is Sister Frances D. Mitchell.
