The original minutes of the Session recite, "Second Sabbath in September, 1871. At the request of friends, the Rev. John Collier organized the Forest Hill Congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the following named persons as members, (to wit) Robert N. Hanger, Hannah E. Hanger, William Fingland, Mary A. Fingland, F. L. Hartman, Susan E. Hartman, Sarah Purvis, Dorcus Williams, William A. Williamson and Susan C. Williamson.
"On motion R. N. Hanger and William N. Williamson were elected Ruling Elders and were regularly ordained after which Brother Williamson was elected Clerk of the Session.
"The Session resolved to petition Red
Oak Presbytery to take this congregation under its care.
On September 26, 1897 a young preacher by the name of William B. Fitzhugh came to the community and 'reorganized' the Church with the names of thirty-three members recorded, many of them previously had been members and some were even on the Charter roster."
