Q: I am a new church treasurer and am unclear about calculating the Our United Outreach figure for our church. Do you tell us what that figure is or do we figure it out ourselves?

A: In 1985, the General Assembly adopted a recommendation to make the giving of a congregation to Our United Outreach simple. They agreed that a church would tithe or give 10% of their income to Our United Outreach. So a congregation simply projects their income for the coming year and then sets aside 10% of it to give to Our United Outreach to work with other Cumberland Presbyterian congregations to support ministries of the entire denomination.

Q: I am a church treasurer and need to know when I have to send in my last payment of a particular year in order for it to be counted in that year?

A: Beginning in 2002, the cut-off day for payments going to Our United Outreach being turned in for the preceding year will be the second Friday of January. This date has been set as a formula to allow church treasurers, presbyterial treasurers and all persons who need to know this cut-off date to figure that date even if they do not see the reminder sent out by the Central Accounting Division of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Q: Is there anything that can act as a reminder to me to send in my payment for Our United Outreach?

A: For your convenience, the Board of Stewardship now has Our United Outreach envelopes available to congregations free of charge to use in sending in their OUO payments.
