An endowment is a gift of a portion of a person's life that will eternally keep the light of God alive in the world. An endowment is a clear expression of a Christian's "commitment for the centuries" as the "good news" of reconciling love and of resurrection to new life in Christ is carried forward by your church.
It is an asset that has been given in trust to your church for permanent management, and from which only the income can be used for the mission and ministry of the church.
Every Christian has some understanding about the use of gifts of time, talent and material things to honor God. Our understanding of good stewardship can be enhanced for each of us when we make our gifts thoughtfully and with clear purpose. Just as we find the opportunity to make those thoughtful and purposeful gifts from our monthly income, we also have an opportunity to give proportionately from our accumulated assets to endowm our Church and its congregations.
For those reasons, the Board of Stewardship, Foundation and Benefits of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church is providing a guide, "Committed for the Centuries." (click here to order this guide) The handbook is designed to help you and your Session introduce the concept of an endowment as a financially sound and spiritually fulfilling stewardship opportunity.
The handbook provides the written guidelines, but remember that the staff of your General Assembly Board of Stewardship, Foundation and Benefits sincerely desires to assist you and your Session personally in the development of an endowment program for your church. (Click here to go to the listing of the BOS staff) It is our hope that every congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church will claim the promise of being "committed for the centuries."
