Society of St. Giles - Tulsa, Oklahoma
Started in January 2001, this unique NCD co-sponsored with Red River Presbytery, and under the direction of Bill Webb, serves the disabled community, care-givers, health care professionals and those who sense a calling to identify with and advocate for persons with physical challenges. The congregation meets at 5 p.m. on Sundays in the chapel of Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian in Tulsa. In May 2003 the church was awarded the ADisability Awareness Recognition@ from the ecumenical Annual Assembly of the Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry, and it has received excellent community publicity in a variety of local magazines and newspapers. Bill Webb also performs facility audits for congregations desiring to be as accessible as possible. The Facilities Audit form Bill has developed is available to our churches for their own self-study. St. Giles is a Aniche@ ministry and is developing slowly. It has made progress, and its ministry is extremely important not only to its participants but to the denomination as well.
