Cumberland Peninsula Community - San Bruno, California
Sharing rented church facilities with three other new congregations, this new church averaged 47 in worship attendance at the end of 2003. The congregation is served by pastor Bruce Wong, and regards its primary target community to be English-speakers of Asian descent. It was initiated in October 2000 and is co-sponsored with Presbytery del Cristo. Outside program subsidy is quickly drawing to a close, and the faithfulness of the membership is demonstrating the capacity to carry the work forward. In 2003 local tithes and offerings totaled more than $80,000. Conscientious leadership development is a major aspect of this ministry as the new work proceeds toward formal organization. Because of property and building costs in the Bay Area, the church probably will share facilities with others for the foreseeable future.
