Is Personal Evangelism a Challenge for You?
by Tom Sanders
For many people, evangelism feels more like an intrusive act rather than a caring one. For them, evangelism feels unnatural and forced. Most Christians who have heard the biblical commands feel they should do evangelism, but don’t enjoy the experience. So they give up until they are “guilted into it” again.
The 2007 General Assembly made personal evangelism a denominational priority for the next five years. As a pastor or layleader, are you ready to lead and equip your people to do personal evangelism in a way that is culturally relevant and biblically faithful, yet enjoyable and fulfilling at the same time? Is it really possible to enjoy doing evangelism?
Yes, it is! Telephone Coaching can help make that happen. We want to further equip you as a leader to involve your congregation in effective evangelism. You can assist in developing this training by participating in a 3 month evangelism study beginning August 1. This study, which is part of a Doctor of Ministry project, will involve phone coaching to help church leaders in evangelism. Participants can be ordained ministers, ministry candidates, elders, or deacons. For the research phase of the project, ministry candidates must be currently enrolled in the Program of Alternate Studies, and ordained ministers must have taken at least one course in, or be a graduate of, the Program of Alternate Studies.
