Rev. Talley, Tennessee

Rev. James Henry Talley, a minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, concluded his earthly life on May 25 at the age of 84.

A native of Henderson, Tennessee, Bro. Talley was active in the ministry of our church from 1912 until just a few years before his death. Declining health forced retirement after having served the church he loved for many years. Pastorates included the states of Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas.

He was one of a number of men who labored faithfully in God's Kingdom and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in a period that demanded personal sacrifice, courage, stamina, and above all a love for his Lord.

Bro. Talley possessed a unique manner of presentation and many times there were lines to be remembered and called to attention later, never to be forgotten. Of sin he said . . . "The world is going to Hell so fast that you cannot see it for the dust." His comment on narrow-mindedness was . . . "I despise to see a man who is so narrow of mind that you can place his head between the pages of a book, and close that book, and never know that it is there."

The family would like, through the medium of THE CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN, to express appreciation for the many flowers, cards and letters and other acts of kindness and thoughtfulness.
