Tributes of Respect
Rev. J. D. Potts, Texas
Whereas, since last we met, the spirit of the Rev. J. D. Potts, senior minister of Austin Presbytery, has returned to the God who gave it;

And, whereas, he had an illustrious career as an evangelist of the gospel of Jesus Christ, having led hundreds of men, women, boys, and girls to faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior;

And, whereas he served for thirty five years as Stated Clerk of this presbytery, before his retirement from that post in 1948;

And, whereas he was thoroughly efficient and dependable in the discharge of his duties as a member of this presbytery;

And, whereas he constantly expressed complete faith in and loyalty to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church;

And, whereas he was a man of generosity of spirit, of evenness of temper, and of firmness of conviction;

And, whereas he is one who truly fought a good fight, who finished his course, and who kept the faith;

Therefore be it resolved:

That we, the Austin Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, in session with Oak Grove Church, August 27, 1954, hereby express gratitude to God for the privilege of having been associated with Brother Potts in the work of this presbytery; and that we express further our appreciation for the services he rendered as a member of this presbytery;

Be it further resolved that the moderator appoint a person to conduct a memorial service honoring the memory of this departed soldier of the cross at this meeting of the presbytery, which will include an opportunity for those present to dedicate themselves to a more sincere following of the example he set before us, and to a deeper consecration to our task as stewards of the gospel of Jesus Christ;

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be sent to Miss Maude Potts, and Mmes. Mabel Palmie and Linna Hooker, daughters of Brother Potts; to the Stated Clerk of the Texas Synod of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church; and to THE CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN.
            --M. F. Allen, Jr., J. S. Eustis.
