MOLLOY.--Rev. Robert Washington Molloy, the subject of this
notice, was born in Limestone County, Ala., Jan. 17, 1824, and
died at Malakoff, Texas, Jan. 22, 1899, aged 75 years and 5 days.
Brother Molloy professed religion when thirteen years of age and
joined the church. At this time he was living in West Tennessee.
In his 33d year he was received as a candidate, under the care
of Trinity Presbytery, while in session at Corsicana. The presbytery
desired to license him at once; but, on his own plea for delay,
this was deferred for six months. At the expiration of this time
he was licensed. During the troublous times following 1861, the
presbytery passed an order for his ordination; but he wished to
have the matter delayed, and it was not attended until 1866; when
he and a brother by the name of Nugent were ordained at the same
time. In the earlier part of his ministry Brother Molloy, as a
matter of necessity, taught school; but during the last eight
years of his life gave himself entirely to the work of the ministry.
He expressed himself as being fully prepared for the summons to
the spirit world. Not a doubt disturbed, not a cloud obscured,
his prospect of future bliss. Like one of old, he could say, "I
know that my Redeemer liveth." The congregation at Malakoff,
under his faithful ministry, was strengthened spiritually and
numerically. As one result of this strengthening a new and neat
church building, free from any incumbrance, stands to attest the
liberality and zeal of pastor and people. Doubtless many in a
coming day will rise up to call him blessed. Peace to his ashes. W.
H. BERRY.
