Presley Medcalf

Cumberland Presbyterian Minister

1835 - 1887

REV. PRESLEY MEDCALF.

By Mrs. Amelia Wilhoit.

Rev. Presley Medcalf was born in Davies County, Ky., December 19, 1835. Died in Huntingburg, Ind., April 2, 1887. The deceased when a small boy with his parents, moved from Kentucky to Dale, Spencer County, Ind., where he lived until a few years ago, when he came to Huntingburg, and resided there until the Lord called him home.

When he was seventeen years of age he was happily converted and some years after his conversion, feeling the burden of saving souls, he began the work of the ministry in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, in which he labored for three or four years, the Lord blessing his labor abundantly. Disease finally came and laid its cruel hand upon him and although it was the greatest sacrifice of his life, he was compelled to abandon the much-loved work of preaching Christ's everlasting gospel. His last days though attended with much suffering were full of joy and peace. He had unbonded faith in Christ, and his power to save. He found much consolation in his Bible. It was the Book of all books with him, and as the sun of his life was fast sink in the Western sky at times, all clouds cleared away.

His entrance into the other world was as peaceful and gentle as a summer breeze. Well may it be said, "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord--yea saith the Spirit that they rest from their labors, and their works do follow them."

His body lies sleeping in the cemetery at Dale, Ind.
