Grinter.--The Rev. James W. Grinter was born July 17, 1819. United with the Cumberland Presbyterian church in 1840. Entered the ministry in Logan Presbytery, October 6, 1847. Licensed at Mt. Moriah church, October 2, 1848. United with Davis Presbytery, April 12, 1873, in which he died, happy in the triumphs of a living faith, May 24, 1888. At the last meeting of Davis Presbytery the following action was taken, relative to his death:

Whereas, the great Head of the church has seen fit, in his mysterious yet gracious providence, to remove from our number our highly esteemed brother, the Rev. J. W. Grinter, to his reward and to the rest of heaven; therefore,

Resolved, 1. That we believe him to have been a man of unswerving integrity, of deepest piety, of earnest zeal, and ardent love for God and his kingdom.

2. That by his death this presbytery has lost one of its most efficient ministers, and one of its safest counselors.

3. That we meekly bow in holy submission to this bereavement, believing that the Lord of all the earth will do right.

J. M. Gill, Chairman,
S. M. Gough,                           Committee.
J. H. Rutherford,

A. C. Biddle, S.C.
