
Rev. S. R. Estes Dies
Rev. Samuel Russell Estes, 78, a retired minister of the church, died October 4 in Fort Worth, Texas. He had been in failing health for some time but his death came quite suddenly and unexpectedly.
Most of his 40 year ministry has been spent in churches in Oklahoma and Texas, but he had also served in Arkansas, Missouri and Kentucky. Since his retirement he has served as interim and supply pastor of a number of churches.
Surviving him are his wife, Grace Barefoot Estes, seven children, fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Two of his sons, a son-in-law, and a grandson are Cumberland Presbyterian ministers. These are, respectively, Rev. Sam R. Estes, Jr., Lubbock, Texas, Rev. Loyce S. Estes, Austin, Texas, Dr. Thomas H. Campbell, Memphis, Tenn., and Rev. Tom Campbell, Fort Worth. Another grandson, George R. Estes, is a licensed minister of Hopewell Presbytery and a ministerial student in Bethel College.
The other children include Mrs. Margaret Campbell, Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. Malnor Arthur, Phillips, Texas, David A. Estes, Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Mrs. Olive Caddell, Fort Worth, and N. Clay Estes, Alexandria, Virginia.
During his ministry he held membership in the following presbyteries: Chickasaw, Cherokee, Greer, Amarillo, Ozark, Lubbock, Porter, Owensboro, Corsicana, and North Central Texas where his membership was at the time of his death.
The funeral was held in Fort Worth with Rev. James C. Gilbert and Rev. Brown C. Welch officiating. Interment was in Fort Worth.
