Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America

Obituary

Reverend Jim Tucker, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Burl Tucker was born in Cherokee County near Rusk, Texas. This beautiful life came to a close on November 8, 1974 and he entered into "Eternal Rest."

He was reared in the Elm Grove Community where he attended public school and participated in the community activities.

When quite young he joined the Mt. Hebron Presbyterian Church. The same day that he united with the church he asked to be baptized and fellowshipped in order that he would be permitted to preach in the evening service. He preached his first sermon that evening. The songs that he sang and the sermon that he delivered kept his congregation in silent awe profound, and reverent. Every since that day, he has been pleading with sinners unto repentance and has added many souls into the Christian family.

He was truly a man of service a leader, a builder and a teacher. He served as moderator and an evangelist for the Angelina Presbyterial District. He has spent sixty years in service for his Master.

In 1917 he volunteered and served in the army during WWI. He continued preaching the Gospel and served as Chaplain.

He united in matrimony with Miss Odell Willis. Later he united in Holy Wedlock with Mrs. Johnnie Session with whom he lived until death.

His survivors include: A devoted wife, Mrs. Johnnie Tucker of Rusk, Texas; six step-daughters, Mrs. Nettie Mae Hancock, Mrs. Margarette Sterling, Mrs. Ruby Wickware, Mrs. Eula M. McWhorter all of Houston, Mrs. Arizona Wickware, Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Elsie Pruitt, Seattle, Washington; one step-son, Mr. Elbert Session of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Banks of Duncan, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Cornelia Sherman, Maricopa, Ariz.
