Rev. J. A. Fisher, Jr., the devoted husband of the late Elder Corine H. Fisher, passed this life December 16, 1984, at the Medical Center Hospital in Selma, Alabama.
He was the son of the late Rev. James A. Fisher, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Fisher.
As a minister in the Second Cumberland Presbyterian Church, he was active at all levels of the church. For many years, he served as pastor of the McDowell Memorial CP Church, in Pratt City (Birmingham), Alabama. He served several other churches during his lifetime. As a promise to the late Rev. S. A. Nelson, he went to Muskogee, Oklahoma to serve the Nelson Chapel Church for several years while maintaining his home in AnneManie, Alabama. He remained active during the work of the Lord until death, at which time he was serving the Pine Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Marion Junction, Alabama.
During the 1964 and 1965 sessions of the General Assembly, he served as Moderator of the highest court of the church. He had served twenty years on the Board of Christian Education and Publication prior to his rotation off that board.
Delivering the eulogy for the occasion was a friend and former associate, Rev. Thomas Threadgill. Participating in the service were two former moderators of the General Assembly, Revs. Henry Ewing, Jr. and Hosea Garrett, Sr. Rev. Fred Toney, Moderator of the Alabama Synod, also participated.
Rev. Fisher died on Sunday, December 16, and was funeralized on Saturday, December 22, 1984, at the Canaan CP Church, AnneManie, Alabama, where Rev. Cleophus Mann serves as pastor.
